Interview Marius Copil (english)

Our team had a chance to speak with Marius Copil (29yo), 187th player at the ATP ranking. Here is his interview.

"How did you discover tennis?

I started playing tennis because of my brother and father. They were passionate about tennis and they were playing tennis. At the beginning I didn’t like it at all. I wanted to become a football player. 

What do you do to stay in good shape during this period ? 

I’m trying to do a routine of exercises 6 days per week, eating healthy and playing counter strike !

What's your best memory on court ?

I have 4 memories on court that give me chills all the time I think about them :

First, it's my first Davis Cup Match in 2009. I played doubles with my friend Horia Tecau and we beat Satin and Tursunov from being down 2 sets.

Secondly, it's Madrid when I beat Garcia Lopez and I entered top 100.

Thirdly, it's the final with Roger in Basel.

Finally, it's my match with Murray in Washington when we finished at 4 AM.

What results are you most proud of ? 

In doubles, it's my title in Bucarest (ATP250) with Adrian Ungur.

In singles, it's my final in Sofia (ATP250) and in Basel (ATP500).

You played Federer in his « house » in final, what did you feel ? 

I felt that a dream became reality and I was very proud of myself.

What’s your favorite tournament ?

My favorite tournaments in ATP 250 are Munich and Stockholm, in ATP 500 it's Basel, in ATP 1000 it's Indian Wells and Miami when it was played in Key Biscayne.

My favorite Grand Slam is Australian Open.

What is your main goal until the end of your career?

I want to win at least one ATP Tournament in singles and I want to enter into top 50 minimum.

What would you do after your career ? Coaching or anything else ?

I would like to help other people to learn tennis, I don’t think that I would like to travel so much after I finish my career. 

I would like to build houses, apartments, hospitals and a gym."
